Okay, so I’ve been wanting a new bag for a while, and I’ve had my eye on the YSL LE CARRé SATCHEL. It’s just so classy and timeless. But, you know, the price tag? Ouch. So I thought, “Why not try to make one myself?”
First, I spent hours online looking at pictures of the bag from every possible angle. I studied the details, the stitching, the hardware, everything. I took notes and made sketches, trying to get a feel for the dimensions and the construction.
Then came the fun part – choosing the leather. I went to a local leather supplier. They had rows and rows of different types of leather, I felt a little overwhelmed. After touching and comparing dozens of options, I finally found a beautiful, supple black calfskin that I thought would be perfect. It was a bit of a splurge, but hey, it’s still cheaper than the real deal, right?
Next, I had to draft the pattern. I used some thick paper and drew out all the different pieces, using my notes and measurements as a guide. This part was tricky, and I had to redo a few pieces to get them just right.
- Front and back panels
- Side panels
- Bottom panel
- Flap
- Strap
Once I was happy with the pattern, I carefully cut out the leather pieces. Cutting the leather was nerve-wracking because I didn’t want to make any mistakes. Luckily, I managed to cut everything out perfectly.
Then came the sewing. I’m not a professional, but I have a decent sewing machine. I started by sewing the side panels to the bottom panel. Then, I attached the front and back panels. Slowly but surely, the bag started to take shape. I added the flap and the strap. For the YSL logo, instead of trying to replicate the exact thing, I just found an old “Y,S,L” letter accessories and try to combined them together, the three letters are separated, so I need to find a way to combine them.
The hardest part was probably attaching the hardware. I bought some high-quality buckles and clasps online that looked similar to the ones on the original bag. It took some patience and a few tries, but I finally got them all attached securely.
Finally, after many hours of work, the bag was finished! I couldn’t believe how great it turned out. It’s not an exact replica, but it definitely captures the spirit of the YSL LE CARRé SATCHEL. And the best part? I made it with my own two hands!
I’ve been using the bag for a few weeks now, and I’ve gotten so many compliments on it. People can’t believe it when I tell them I made it myself. It just goes to show that you don’t always have to spend a fortune to get the look you want. Sometimes, a little creativity and some hard work can go a long way! And by the way, Saint Laurent, formerly known as Yves Saint Laurent, is really a brand that can be learned.
So yeah, that’s the story of how I remade a YSL bag. It was a fun and challenging project, and I’m so proud of the results. Hope you guys like it too!
