Okay, so, I decided to remake this Yves Saint Laurent YSL LE CARRé SATCHEL BAG. You know, the classic style one. I saw it first back in the fall of 2019, and I just loved its simple, clean look. It’s got these nice, rounded edges and some shiny hardware that just screams “luxury” without being all in your face about it.
First, I studied a bunch of pictures of the original bag. I really wanted to get the details right. This bag is known for being a “pop neutral,” which I guess means it’s not some crazy color but still stands out. I decided to go with black because, well, it’s classic.
Then, I got to work. I sketched out the design, making sure I had all the dimensions correct. I measured everything out like five times, just to be sure. After that, I carefully selected a piece of leather that I thought matched the original’s texture and quality. It’s this smooth, kind of boxy type, I think they call it “BOX SAINT LAURENT.” Feels pretty nice, not gonna lie.
Cutting the leather was a bit nerve-wracking. I used a really sharp cutter to make sure all the edges were clean and precise. This part took a while because I didn’t want to mess up. Once the pieces were cut, I started assembling the bag. I stitched everything together by hand, which, let me tell you, takes forever, but it’s worth it for that handmade look.
- Study the original bag’s design and details.
- Sketch and measure the design multiple times for accuracy.
- Select the right leather that matches the original texture.
- Cut the leather carefully with a sharp cutter.
- Stitch the bag together by hand for a handmade finish.
The inside of the bag is pretty simple, it’s just flat, not like those accordion types with a bunch of pockets. That’s one thing I noticed is different from some of the other YSL bags, like the Nolita or the Vicky. Those have more going on inside, I guess. This one’s capacity is a little limited, but that’s okay.
I also made the strap, which was pretty straightforward. I just cut a long piece of leather, folded it, and stitched it up. Then I added the hardware, which I found online. It’s not the exact same as the original, but it’s close enough. This bag is supposed to be one of the “best bags for Spring 2023,” but I don’t really follow fashion seasons, I just like what I like.
Finally, after many hours of work, I finished the bag. I compared it to the pictures of the original, and I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. It’s not perfect, but it definitely captures the essence of the LE CARRé SATCHEL. It’s a nice, classic bag that I think will be great for everyday use.
So yeah, that’s my experience remaking the YSL LE CARRé SATCHEL BAG. It was a lot of work, but I enjoyed the process. And now I have a cool new bag, even if it’s not the real deal. Plus, I saved a bunch of money by making it myself, which is always a bonus!
Would I do it again?
Probably, yeah. It was fun. Maybe next time I’ll try a different color, just to mix things up a bit.
