So, I’ve been eyeing the Patek Philippe Calatrava 6119G-001 for a while now. It’s a real beauty, but man, that price tag! I mean, we’re talking about a serious investment here. But I really love the watch, so I decided to go ahead and try to reproduce it myself. It should be noted that I love watches and have a little bit of a watch collection background, so I can do this in theory.
First, I spent some time thinking about whether I should really buy an original watch. After thinking about it, I think buying a Calatrava is a big decision. It’s not just about telling time, it’s about owning a piece of art, a status symbol. I don’t have much money, so I thought about it for a long time. But in the end, I decided to remake it myself.
Next, I started looking up all kinds of information about Calatrava online. There are dozens of Calatrava watches. The 6119G-001 is 39mm wide and just over 8mm thick. Then I thought, the original watch has a waiting time of about a year, I definitely don’t want to wait that long, so my remake plan officially started.
I started looking for materials. This was a real challenge. I needed to find the right metals, the perfect glass, and all those tiny, intricate parts. I spent days, maybe weeks, searching online and visiting local stores. It was tough, but finally, I managed to gather most of the materials I needed. I decided to use white gold, although it took me a long time to find it.
- Case Material: White gold
- Diameter: 39mm
- Thickness: Approximately 8mm
Then came the hard part – actually putting the watch together. I’m not a professional watchmaker, so this was a huge learning curve for me. I watched countless videos online, read articles, and even reached out to some watch enthusiasts for advice. I made a lot of mistakes, messed up a few parts, and had to start over more than once. It was frustrating, but I was determined to see this through.
Slowly but surely, the watch started to take shape. I meticulously assembled the movement, piece by piece. I carefully set the dial and hands, making sure everything was aligned perfectly. And then, finally, after months of hard work, it was done. My very own, handmade Patek Philippe Calatrava 6119G-001, well, a pretty good replica of it anyway.
It’s not perfect, of course. There are a few imperfections here and there. But I’m incredibly proud of what I accomplished. I took a dream, a vision, and turned it into a reality. And I did it all myself. It’s a reminder that with enough determination and hard work, anything is possible, or at least you can make a decent-looking watch that somewhat resembles a Patek Philippe.
Now, I wear my “Calatrava” with a sense of pride and accomplishment. It’s not the real deal, but it’s mine, and it tells a story of perseverance and passion. That’s worth more than any price tag, in my opinion. Plus, I saved a bunch of money, which is always a good thing!
