The Finishing Touches
After what felt like an eternity, I finally got it all assembled. It wasn’t perfect, not by a long shot. But it kind of looked like the Gondolo 7042/100G-010. Maybe from very, very far away. And it even kept time! Well, most of the time, anyway. Sometimes it ran a little fast, sometimes a little slow. But hey, it was working!
- Casing: Found a similar-looking casing online after weeks of searching.
- Movement: Used a cheap quartz movement. It’s not automatic like the real thing, but it works.
- Dial: This was the hardest part. I ended up using a thin piece of metal and painting it to look like the original.
- Hands: Bought some generic watch hands and modified them to fit.
- Diamonds: Used tiny rhinestones. They’re not real diamonds, obviously, but they sparkle.
In the end, my homemade Patek Philippe Gondolo 7042/100G-010 was definitely not a perfect replica. It was rough around the edges, and it certainly wouldn’t fool a watch expert. But you know what? I was proud of it. I made it with my own two hands. It was a reminder that I could do anything I set my mind to, even if it was something as crazy as trying to remake a super expensive luxury watch.
Would I do it again? Probably not. It was a lot of work, and honestly, it’s not the same as owning the real thing. But it was a fun project, and I learned a lot.
