Remake Yves Saint Laurent YSL JUNE BOX BAG: Where to Find Affordable Versions of This Classic Style

Okay, so I saw this Yves Saint Laurent YSL JUNE BOX BAG the other day, and I thought, “I can do that.” It’s basically just a little box with a flap, right? How hard could it be? So, I decided to give it a try. I mean, I’ve made a few things in my time. This was a classic, they say.

First thing, I had to get some leather. I went down to the local market and found a guy selling scraps. Found a nice, sturdy piece of black leather. It was not very expensive. It didn’t cost me an arm and a leg, anyway. It was big enough to make that little box shape. I had to cut the leather into the right shapes. I used a ruler and a sharp knife and I made all the panels for the box, the front, back, sides, and bottom.

  • Cut out the front and back panels (they’re the same size, easy peasy).
  • Cut out the side panels (these are long and skinny, like the sides of a box, duh).
  • Cut out the bottom panel (this one is rectangular, the base of our little box).
  • Cut out the flap.

I made sure to measure twice and cut once. I stitched the pieces together. I used a heavy-duty needle and some strong thread. Black, of course, to match the leather. It took some time, but I got it done. Sewed those panels together like a pro, if I do say so myself. It was starting to look like a box. The flap was the trickiest part. It needed to be just the right size to cover the front of the bag. Got that done.

The YSL Logo

Then came the YSL logo. Now, I didn’t have a fancy metal logo lying around. But I found this neat little metal piece that looked just like the YSL logo. It wasn’t perfect, but it was close enough. I attached it to the flap. It actually pivots, like the real thing! It was tricky, getting it to stay on, but I managed. I used some strong glue and a couple of tiny screws. It looked pretty darn good, if I do say so myself.

Finally, I added a strap. Found an old leather strap from another bag and attached it to the sides. It’s adjustable, so you can wear it however you want. And there you have it, my own homemade YSL JUNE BOX BAG. It’s not exactly like the real thing, but it’s close enough. It’s a little rough around the edges, but it’s got character. Plus, it didn’t cost me a fortune. And the best part, I think, is I made it. Now, to be honest, it’s not the biggest bag in the world. But it’s big enough to hold your phone, your keys, and maybe a lipstick.

This whole thing, it’s a good reminder that you don’t need to spend a ton of money to have something nice. It’s pretty good, don’t you think? Especially for an old-timer like me. A little creativity and elbow grease can go a long way. I’m pretty proud of myself, to be honest. These young folks, they like their fancy bags. And this old guy showed them how it’s done, right?
