Okay, so I recently got this wild idea to try and remake a PRADA bag. Yeah, I know, sounds crazy, right? But I saw this PRADA Medium Galleria Saffiano Leather Bag online, and I just fell in love with it. The real one’s way out of my budget, so I thought, “Why not give it a shot myself?”
First off, I started looking around for places that might sell remake versions of this bag. I mean, surely someone else had the same idea, right? I found a few websites talking about them, some even claiming to be official flagship stores. But honestly, it all seemed a bit dodgy. I did learn that this Galleria bag is supposed to be a big deal. They say it is made with some fancy “Saffiano” leather and it is like a sign of “Italian craftsmanship”. Whatever that means. Anyway, I know I need to get the materials right, or else it will look cheap.
I started gathering my materials. I found some leather that felt pretty similar to the Saffiano stuff. It wasn’t the exact same, but hey, it was close enough. I also grabbed some sturdy fabric for the lining, some metal bits for the logo and zippers, and a bunch of other sewing stuff. It was like a treasure hunt, going from store to store, trying to find the right things. Then, I began cutting the leather. This was the tricky part. I didn’t have a proper pattern, so I just kind of eyeballed it based on pictures of the real bag. I cut out the main body pieces, the sides, the bottom, everything. It took forever, and I definitely messed up a few times. Sewing the pieces together was another adventure. I used my grandma’s old sewing machine – that thing’s a beast! It took some practice, but I slowly started to see the bag taking shape. The handles were a pain, though. Getting them to look even and stay sturdy was a real challenge.
Next up, the inside. I used that fabric I found to make the lining and some pockets. I even tried to copy that little PRADA logo plate thingy. I found a metal piece that looked similar and tried to engrave it. It didn’t turn out perfect, but it added a nice touch, I think. After that, it was time to put it all together. I attached the lining to the leather, added the zippers and the metal feet at the bottom. I even found a similar strap online and added that on. It took days of work, honestly. Lots of late nights, lots of coffee, and lots of frustration.
In the end, I had something that looked… well, it looked like a bag! It wasn’t a perfect replica of the PRADA Medium Galleria Saffiano Leather Bag, not by a long shot. But it was mine. And I made it. It had that same boxy shape, the same kind of handles, and it was even big enough to fit all my stuff. I could even fit my knitting stuff in there and my wallet for sure, pretty much everything.

Here is a list what I did:
- Gathered materials: Faux Saffiano leather, lining fabric, metal hardware, etc.
- Cut the leather: Based on pictures, I cut out all the necessary pieces.
- Sewed the pieces: Used an old sewing machine to assemble the bag’s body.
- Created the lining: Made the inner lining with fabric and pockets.
- Added details: Tried to replicate the logo and added zippers, feet, and a strap.
I’ve been using my homemade PRADA-ish bag for a few weeks now. I even took it out shopping, and you know what? I felt pretty good. It’s not the real deal, but it’s unique, and it’s got a story. Plus, I saved a ton of money! I’ve been carrying that bag I made, and it felt awesome. Would I do it again? Maybe. It was a lot of work, but it was also a lot of fun. And hey, if I ever get tired of this one, I can always just make another one! If you’re thinking about doing this just do it! But you have to make sure that you can keep the bag in good condition if you want it to last.
