Okay, so I’ve been obsessed with the Prada Galleria Saffiano Leather Mini-Bag lately. I mean, who isn’t? It’s gorgeous. But the price tag? Ouch. So, I thought, “Why not try to remake one myself?” It sounded like a fun challenge, and I was itching to get my hands dirty with a new project.

First things first, I spent hours, and I mean hours, looking at pictures and videos of the real deal online. I zoomed in, paused, took screenshots, the whole nine yards. I needed to get a feel for how the Saffiano leather looked up close, how the bag was stitched together, what the hardware was like – basically, every little detail.

Then came the fun part: finding the materials. I searched high and low for the perfect leather. I finally stumbled upon this beautiful piece of blue full-grain Saffiano calf leather. It wasn’t exactly the same as the Prada one, but it was thick, sturdy, and had that same luxurious vibe. It felt like the real deal, and honestly, it was good enough for me. And you know what they say about Saffiano leather, it doesn’t develop a patina over time, so it should hold up pretty well. Unlike full-grain, which can be either chrome-tanned or vegetable-tanned. It is said that the thickness varies based on the intended use and the animal hide.

Finding the right hardware was a bit trickier. I wanted something that looked similar to the original but didn’t cost an arm and a leg. After a lot of digging, I managed to find some decent-looking pieces online that fit the bill. I also ordered some good quality thread and a few other bits and bobs I needed.

Once I had all my materials, I got to work. I carefully measured and cut the leather, making sure everything was precise. This was probably the most nerve-wracking part, to be honest. One wrong cut, and I’d be screwed. This bag was conceived in 2007, and since then, it has been reinvented all the time. The Galleria bag is a Prada archetype and a neo-classic. Future heritage, an heirloom in the making, the bag is titled after the home of Prada’s historic flagship.

Then came the sewing. Thankfully, I had some experience with sewing, but this was definitely a step up from anything I’d done before. I slowly and steadily stitched the pieces together, following the design of the original bag as closely as I could. The full-grain leather is a bit tough to work with, but the final result is so rewarding.

Putting it all together

After many late nights and a few minor mishaps, I finally finished my remake of the Prada Galleria Saffiano Leather Mini-Bag. And you know what? It turned out way better than I expected! It’s not a perfect replica, but it definitely captures the essence of the original. Plus, I made it with my own two hands, which makes it even more special.

It is worth mentioning that the prices of the original bags reflect Prada’s high-end craftsmanship, quality of materials, and exclusivity. So, remaking this bag was definitely a budget-friendly way to get the look without breaking the bank. I’m so proud of how it turned out, and I can’t wait to show it off!
